Had the Spaetzle and it was delish! Traditional German soup made with dumpling "spaetzle noodles" made from scratch, veggies, broth and smoked sausage. All delivered with a fresh baked bread roll w/butter & an authentic German hefeweisen!

Their sausage is amazing - it will spoil you for all other sausage. We make a special trip every other month for their sausage to cook at home ($16 - perfect for 4 hungry people ... we make Bangers & Mash with ours). They have a full restaurant, as well - we want to eat there! Great service. Love this place!!

Sausages. On fries. On buns. On plates. We were in sausage heaven. Also, the sauerkraut they serve is delicious- not too tart. Apple strudel was wonderful. What's not to like about being able to buy their sausage and strudel to take home?

Best of the wursts - comfort food in a bun! Wife and I were hungry after our Silver Falls hike and stopped in for a meal on the sunny deck. I had the red, white and blue - chopped tomatos, grilled onions, and blue cheese crumbles over a brat in a bun. My wife had the brat with ranch dressing, grilled onions and provolone cheese. No complaints excepts the cook put too many blue cheese crumbles on and they fell out of the bun - first world problems. The server (Margaret) was very pleasant as the other who I chatted with. We bought some frozen knockwurst (package of six for $6.25 or so) to take home. A very delightful place to eat.

there quite a few choices and sausage that are made here whether it's German or Italian. by several packages and take it home and enjoy it on a good Stadium roll pasta or any German dish you like to do to as well. the restaurant offers all these types of sausages on a sandwich or with German potato salad . nice selection of beers locally and an imported as well. so stop by and try a sandwich .

Food was ok, the sausage in my sandwich was terribly overcooked but otherwise was good. Service was very friendly but very, and I mean very slow. We were one of less than 10 tables and our food took almost 45 minutes. On the plus side though they did offer us more cheese for the fondue plate when we ran out, though I declined as it was rather bland. I'll try them again probably because I love sausage... Burnt or not lol maybe I'll try to order it "medium"

Home made sausages in the German tradition. Nice setting (we were outside on the deck on a beautiful day). A bit slow with the service, just this was a relaxed sunny day, so www didn't care.

This establishment is a restaurant but they also make German Sausages that they distribute thru Cisco to other establishments and stores. Their sausage, in my opinion, are my second place winners for German sausages with Bavarian Meats in Seattle, Washington being 1st place. I owned a restaurant in Montana for almost 6 years, where we served German Sausages & meats among many other dishes, and we used to sell over 60ilbs of sausages a week. While owning the restaurant I had many occasion to sample German sausages and meats from East to West coast andhave never found any better than Bavarian Meats. Mt Angel sausages are much better than any I've found in the Portland, Oregon area or elsewhere. The food is reasonably priced and the service was excellent and friendly. I would almost give this establishment 5 stars but I was disappointed that the German Potato salad the serve is made by Reser's, I know because it is the same product I used at my restaurant. Reser's also makes potato salad that you can purchase at Costco. It's not that their German Potato salad wasn't good, it's just that I expected if they make their own sausages that they also make their own potato salad. I will stop her for German meals again and will bring their sausages home again but if I'm going to the Seattle area in the near future I will get my sausages there.

I give this place 5 stars because it is the best place to eat in Mount Angel. The food is very tasty, with typical German fare as well as burgers and such. Their outdoor seating is wonderful- it's nice to sit outside and eat in the middle of this wonderful small town. Indoor seating on a sunny day can get you ignored- yes the service is not always timely and I could drop this by a star. But for the most part, they are friendly and really, the best meal in Mt Angel!!!

Great food, great process and great service! I got the ribs and the rest of my group got some sort of sausage entrée... from sausage sandwiches to just the link. Everyone raved. We ending buying the knockwurst and the Chicken sausage to take home and they tasted even better grille don the Webber. If y our in the area go, if you're not it's worth the trip.

I stopped in and bought some of their homemade bratwurst sausage. I've tried some of their other sausages including the curry one. They are tasty, but you have to be careful of the some of the spicy ones. They are very spicy! The prices are about the same as New Seasons sausage, but I think the flavor is more pronounced/stronger with the Mt Angel sausage. Worth the stop and adventure. They also have a restaurant at the same location. I have not eaten at the restaurant, but the sausage is the same.

Good food, great drinks (the huckleberry lemonade was delicious), great service. Our party of 2.5 came in during the last half-hour (which I would not normally do) but they accommodated us. We shared the pastrami burger and a fondue plate. The fries were out of this world! Kid's menu could use some improving, but they may not get enough visitors under ten to justify it. It was our first visit, but we'll definitely be back. The deck on a pleasant evening was SO enjoyable, even if there was a chilly breeze.

Fresh pretzels with cheese sauce, fried pepperoni and 20oz beers. Is there anything else I need to say? Ok, sure, the service was awesome!

This is a place that knows how to do what they do well, fast fresh and spot on. I really enjoyed my meal, the beer was very cold, food was hot, loved the curry sauce and the server was all over her area. Each table around us had great service. The hand held ordering device made it even faster and gave accurate info to the kitchen. I want one of those! We picked up some sausages from the retail store and will have a cook out at home. I also bought some of the curry sauce. My Bratwurst burger basket and tater tots was just what I needed after a long hike at Silver Falls State Park, not far away.

Easily better than many of the foodie places in Portland. Here, you're getting homemade products, and the atmosphere is quite like a real German "Kneipe," a neighborhood bar. If you're anywhere in the lower valley, it's a much nicer drive that up to Portland. Worth repeat visits.

My whole family loves this place! It is always our first stop at the Oktoberfest as well as the Clackamas County Fair. The currywurst is out of this world. Now we go there and buy our own sausage and curry sauce so that we can make it at home. So yummy!

Had dinner on their outdoor patio tonight. Our waitress was very nice and our order was taken promptly. The food was brought out very quickly. There were 5 at our table and the orders were mixed up. I had the dinner sausage plate that comes with two sausages of your choice. I thought the sausages were dry and overcooked. The potatoes were very good and so was the kraut. Some people in our party waited up to an hour and a half. Their bill was compted. Was really looking forward to some excellent sausage and was disappointed. Arrived at 5:30pm was served quickly but I had to seek out waitress for my check at 7pm.

Authenticity can be overrated. When you think about it, such a small subset of diners would know (or care) what is authentic. Sometimes customers and restauranteurs may be doing themselves a disservice by striving for absolute authenticity. Just follow the American model and blend the old world with the new to create your own kind of wonderful. Mt. Angel Sausage Company is an amusing blend of European tradition and Americana. It is located in the faux Bavarian town of Mt. Angel, Oregon, known for its annual Oktoberfest. The city is an epicenter of German-style businesses and venues. But, if you read the history of the Mt. Angel Sausage Co., you will see that the family's roots are in the Netherlands, not Germany. The original business was located on the Oregon Coast where they sold "The Real Dutch Treat," rope sausage. But the current restaurant and signage are all an ode to Deutschland. It is kind of what is expected in the area. And when it comes to the food here, it begins and ends with their amazing bratwurst. On my first visit, I couldn't pass up the Currywurst. It is bratwurst served with their own house made curry sauce. A dish I have a great fondness for from trips to Europe, but frequently not on the menu in German restaurants because it is street food. Purists, be damned, it is so very good. Also something my German-American husband makes for our annual Oktoberfest parties and it kills every year. It was hard to try something new, but on my second visit I had the Mount Angel Melt -- grilled bratwurst with cheese, grilled onions, sauerkraut and 1000 Island dressing on the bun. It was a little over-the-top, but again, outstanding. If you want a laugh, read their Sausage Etiquette - ropesausage.com/etiquett… - Sadly, it does take me more than five bites to eat one of their sausages, but I gladly lick my fingers. On my third lunch visit, I decided to venture out and try a different sausage. The Fricadelwurst is spicy, chicken sausage. Good, but I missed the tenderness of the bratwurst. The menu has varied on my visits (and the pricing on the web seems a little outdated), but basically you have several sausage options and ways to dress them: 1) On a stick (wood skewer) or in a sandwich (bun) 2) Toppings - Choose your own or try one of their standard bratwurst preparations: Ranch-style, Mount Angel Melt or Red White and Blue. I find the sauerkraut to be pleasantly mild here. 3) Sides - The fries are either regular or shoestring and they have sweet potato fries. My personal favorite is the regular fries and I've had all three. For kids, mine absolutely loved the pretzels which come with a cheese dipping sauce on the side. Service has been different on each and every visit. The thing I find odd as a customer is that you order at the table, but pay at the bar. The bar is up a ramp and by the retail portion of the business. It would be more convenient to pay the server at the table, but perhaps it is their way of drawing your attention to all the sausages, sauces and glassware for sale. Three visits and I've been thrilled with my food each and every time. So were my husband, my kids and my friends. Ausgezeichnet! Translation for my American friends - Excellent!

OMG this place is the best. The food is great here. Plus the customer service is wonderful here. I just wish the place wasn't so far away from my house. But you want some good sausage place to eat at, well than this is your place. I can't believe how good this place was. The food is to melt in your mouth good. Yummies!

Mt. Angel Sausage Company should be on any ones list of fun things to do in Oregon. This sausage maker/pub serves delicious meals and gives a delightful dining experience. On my last visit Mt. Angel Sausage company had about nine different sausages on their menu. Homemade sausages are offered using different types of meat, seasonings, and levels of heat. The sausages are served either on a stick or sandwich style. Mt. Angel Sausages Company cooks their sausages to order right on a skillet next to the cash register. You have the choice adding sauerkraut and/or onions to your sausage sandwich. If sausages are not your thing then there are plenty of others things on the menu like burgers (including a garden burger), salads, and fish and chips. Mt. Angel Sausage Company has an excellent children's menu. In my opinion the fries here are the best in the state. Don't know where they get their shoestring fries, or how they prepare them, but the french fries at Mt. Angel Sausage Company are to die for. Lightly salted and delicious! The seating is a little tight in the dining room but it's still pleasant. You feel like you're dining in someones kitchen. Things can get a little chaotic at the cash register but I've always experienced friendly help at Mt. Angel Sausage Company. The owner will treat you like a long, lost friend. By the time you leave you will probably be his friend. There's a long and interesting walk to the rest rooms (clean) which will let you see where the sausages are made. Mt. Angel Sausage Company has some of Germany's finest beers on tap. The products of Mt. Angel Sausage are very well displayed. Saw quite a few people buying sausages, sauerkraut, bacon, and mustard to bring home. You don't need to go to Germany or Wisconsin for a great beer and a brat. Mt. Angel Sausage Company can serve you a delicious, inexpensive homemade sausage right here in Oregon!

Service was VERY SLOW, yet polite. Took 30 minutes to get appetizer, 40 mins total to get the order. Order came out incorrect, sausage was good however food is over priced and not well prepared. A $30 dollar lunch, for two sausages, small amount of cold fries and small appetizer. Not again.

I have been to this place a couple of time over the past 3 years. My wife and I stopped in there this last Saturday for a late lunch. I got a currywurst and she got a bratwurst. The food was good and its what I would call "authentic" But why only 2 stars? THE SERVICE We had a similar experience as another reviewer, Josh did, except ours was with a lady (assuming was the owner or owners wife). She was ordering the other servers around, getting her things and they weren't even that busy. Half way through our meal, she came into the middle of the restauraunt talking on the phone. From what I heard ( she was talking loudly) was that she had forgot to schedule an employee for a shift later and was needing them to come in. She even went over and was talking to a couple that she apparently knew. She was talking about how her daughter was working here and her son working there. Then she looks over at our server( who was taking our order) and says " can you get those 2 beers I just poured and take them to table 5?" I felt bad for our server

Two surprises re: the Mt. Angel Sausage Company: they have beef and chicken sausage (not just pork), and they serve a terrific breakfast! The diner atmosphere, with friendly locals both working there and eating there, with at least a deck of cards on every table, if not another game as well, make this a fun place to stop. For breakfast, I had the biscuits and gravy, and though the biscuits weren't the Southern style I prefer, the meal was delicious none-the-less. The German Breakfast *isn't* - a German breakfast consists of a variety of cold cuts and fresh bread, but this restaurant's consists of pork schnitzel, but even so, we were happy to see it on the menu - my German husband says it's the pork schnitzel, not the veal schnitzel, that is truly German. After the meal, as we looked over the sausage offerings for sale, three different people gave us advice - they are VERY proud of their sausages! They have to be frozen because they don't use preservatives. Mt. Angel, and this restaurant, make a fantastic day out from Portland.

What a great find on our trip through Mt Angel today. We each ordered a custom combo meal and were very surprised. The bratwurst was fantastic and the string fries were some of the best. There is a generous menu selection and prices are very reasonable. There are 3 separate dining areas, great for lunch or dinner, and outside dining for summer. The staff was extremely polite and the entire place was immaculate. I say this is a must stop when rolling through, we will be making the 15 mile venture many times just for some good brats and more.

Their sausage variety list is extensive. The ones I tasted were very good. Sauerkraut - also good. I love the idea that they're making good sausage in a relatively low-traveled part of the Willamette Valley. It must be a challenge to keep it up when Oktoberfest comes but once a year. They have an enormous deck out front which would be a great destination for a bike trip in the Valley. Unfortunately, it was just cold enough when we visited that we ate inside. Inside, it's a little spartan. Kind of like an aged American Legion hall with small rooms and 1950s wood furniture. But the service is terrific and the food extremely good and low priced. The fries are also terrific - even if they don't make them themselves, they must have a secret in cooking them up. They have a funny bar. A few German drafts only on tap - which I understand is in keeping with the theme, but this is Oregon and we have so many good local beers - and a Jagermeister dispenser. I can only imagine what this place must be like on a lonely, cold February night when there is nowhere else to go.

The bockwurst is THE BEST!! Homemade curly fries are out of this world. The vegetable fondue was super as was the pretzel (the cheese part was just right, not overly salty like some places). Great, friendly service and a funky setting. The chocolate cake and ice cream is a must. Drove from Eugene just to eat there and plan to go back as often as possible. A must go to place!

Great sausage and schnitzel. Soso fries. Fondue soso but pretzel so good. Large hot chocolate drink. Kid friendly. High chair has cushion and crayons super cool. Sausage incredible delicious. Apple strudel amazing. What they do well, they do extremely well. My 3 year old daughter keeps asking to come back to eat. Very kid-friendly.

I didn't eat here, but my mother (who lives in Salem) took me by to buy some sausages that they sell frozen. I got about 2 packages of each to pack down with me to Cali. They were pretty bland and it was hard to tell the difference between a few of them. The Knockwurst and Bratwurst were similar to me in taste. The Italian wasn't robust like I feel a good Italian should be. But surprisingly, the best thing that I got was the Original Jerky and the Pepperoni! They were EXCELLENT! I will be stocking up next time I go to visit Oregon. I recommend everybody reading this to go in and stock up. I gave this place 4 stars mainly from this, but the decor is great and my mother has ate here multiple times and says it is great.

3 stars goes to the Optimator and bratwurst. If I was here and never had either of those items, I would give the place 1 star based on the unprofessional treatment of employee's that the owner displayed. My father brought me into Mt. Angel yesterday to have a few German brews and a brat. This was the first place we stopped at since the bar next to it was closed and this was open. (When I say owner, i'm referring to the older guy calling shots) The owner was outside asking what we were looking for and my father replied simply with, "German beer". He pointed us into his establishment and said that was the spot. Upon entering, it was rather small, with 5 beers on tap and 2 waitresses. The waitresses were VERY nice people. In fact, I believe one of them was the owners wife. We ordered 2 optimators that came in a fat .05L glass. Great tasting beer I tell ya! I was hungry and ordered a brat with onion and sour kraut on a wheat bun. DAMN GOOD BRAT!! I didn't need any mustards or sauces for this. The brat was full of flavor and tasted amazing. I really enjoyed it. While eating, we listened to this guy (the owner) walk around and HOUND his employees. Owner: "Why is that going out to Table 5!?!?!" employee: "because they ordered more food that wasn't on the original tab: Owner: "OH....OK...well.....murmur murmur...." Owner: "Why are you calling peoples names for orders!!!! You need to call it by there seat number!!!" Like I know what number seat I am at? Fine....he wants to run his business like that? That's his deal....but what bothered me, is that he did it RIGHT IN FRONT of my dad and I. That shit needs to stay in the back, not infront of the customers. Not only did it make this guy look like a total jackass (when he originally seemed really nice) but you could tell his employee's (AND WIFE) were scrambling around trying to keep the peace. And he continued to correct his employee's the full hour we were there. In fact, he had them so scared shitless, that we couldn't even get another drink. And it was NOT that busy....But you could see the panic on the workers faces......I felt horrible. So we packed up and headed down to the next German watering hold down the road. I'll come back for another Brat....that's a must.....but I'll avoid that guy AND eating inside like the plague....

First time here. The sausage are good. The prices are very affordable. The place is nice. However, The servers are quite confused when it got busy, it was understandable though, but I hope they don't get cranky and yelling at each other in front of their costumers. Go check then out!

The Mt. Angel Sausage Company has the best sausages in Oregon. Well worth the drive to Mt. Angel on a beautiful spring day - or anytime! Today, we had sausage & kraut, sausage burger, soup and the sweet potato fries. Everything delicious, as always, and great service - the additional hospitality of the owners took the experience over the top! Also taking home frozen rope sausage for later. And the Monastery Mustard makes great gifts for out-of-town friends!

I'm not sure why this little town on the way back from the coast is German heritage central, but I'm glad for the food we found. We had spent most of the day enjoying the Sunday Market out in Astoria and we were making our way back to Portland, but a light lunch was needed and the town of Mount Angel was in front of us. German food, German beer and buildings with façades to what one might see in a Bavarian community. Curiously cool. As for the Mount Angel Sausage Company, well we struck gold here. Sausage burgers, kraut and great beer! A dunkel for me and a chicken sausage burger with really good fries. Even with the sun beating down on us, the food was great. I could have purchased handmade sausages and beer to go. Along with some bacon and a few other items that they have in a little store inside. The town is so known for their German background that Ninkasi has an Oktoberfest beer named for it. This is a place to come visit for an afternoon, or longer. Great food, great hospitality, great beer. Gotta get back here soon. Enjoy.

I had dinner as part of a large party of about 35. The service was fantastic. Orders were delivered promptly and correctly. Beer glasses stayed full. All the staff worked hard and had smiles on their faces. The food was as billed. Plenty of wursts and other German fare. Portions were large and I did not hear a complaint within our group and that is saying something since there were members who can complain. Why not 5 stars, this is not a "fine dining" establishment. I didn't see anything original but that is not to say that this was anything other than a great meal at a reasonable price. With a normal size party you can sit outside on their deck if it is nice which according to staff is quite popular. And if you like German beer they had plenty to choose from and what I tasted, they were great.

Having lunch here as we drive in Oregon stopped here for lunch and the place is very nice inside. Food very good and tasty. Good music playing but not to loud so you can have a conversation without yelling at one another. As I walked into the men's room I found this inside. An alien German trying to fit in. Definitely different in the bathroom.

THE BEST JAGERSCHNITZEL EVER!!!! They do the mushroom "sauce" differently than most places, but I thought it was fantastic, as was the perfectly fried large portion of flattened, tender pork loin. The mushrooms were sauteed with onions and maybe some red peppers and there was a dollop of sour cream -- all on top of the meat. I split this dish with a friend and we both had plenty to eat. The spaetzle that came on the plate was meh and maybe cooked too long, but then spaetzle is rarely exciting. It also came with a vegetable -- green beans that were good. We also shared a pretzel, which came with cheese sauce. The cheese sauce was bland, but the pretzel was one of the best I've ever had. Good beer selection and great service. I will definitely make the drive from Eugene at some point to go back there.

  • Andrew A.

Start with the super excellent Huckleberry Vodka Lemonade, so refreshing. The large portion Stroganoff was delicious, the side Spaetzle is not a simple afterthought. My standby entree is the Jagerschnitzel. The deep fried macaroni makes a great appetizer. The cobbler an excellent way to end. The only miss was the Schnitzel Basket for $12.95: the fries were too thin and I did not care for the pretzel bun. If you're craving this speciality spend $2 more for a plate and get a bigger portion.

All bikers take note. This is THE destination for excellent German beer and brauts. But there is a lot more. Great German food menu. Try the house Curry sauce instead of mustard. Save some room for the strudel. It's the best I have found. Get it with the ice cream. By the way, the service is excellent.

The sausage is unreal. They've got great German beers on tap and the only place with a wider selection of decent German beers is Gustav's Bargarten in Keizer, but the same beers and food (Mt. Angel's sausage is far better) will cost you twice as much at Gustav's.

This review is provided with Werner Herzog-like narration: No one knows why the two young people chose to eat here rather than the Glockenspiel. Perhaps...it was the prices. Perhaps...an emptiness drove them...a restless urge to know the inner workings of a sausage and the company it keeps, the world and craft of the sausage maker... What is clear is that they ordered and ate a very, very tender schnitzel, and two warm, garlicky sausages. These sausages were hand crafted with the care of angel's wings. They parked the car at approximately 5:03 p.m. on a Wednesday evening. The purple clouds were bloated like a corpse, foretelling impending doom. Doom, however, was never to come. The two people, a husband and a wife from Portland merely ate their sausages in silence, relishing mouthfuls of gravy, grilled onions and spatezel soup. At 5:16 p.m. on Wednesday their bellies began so bloated that sitting was uncomfortable. Why they continued to eat, and how it was possible to keep eating are mysteries that no one has been able to solve. The local medical examiner I interviewed explained that the human limits for sausage consumption are currently unknown, and that the human stomach can continue to expand to herculean proportions when stimulated by the influx of sausage. The friendly proprietor who served them sensed their hunger, but not their capacity for gluttony or sloth. She, nor anyone else who encountered the normal-looking couple that night had any sense of the sheer hunger inside them, and of the powerful forces compelling them to consume copious amounts of meat, kraut, and drink... Three rolls were provided, although none were requested. What was the significance of that number, and why were these rolls so soft? Perhaps their function was to absorb the thick, black gravy that covered the mysterious depths of their plates like an inscrutable but highly delectable death mask. While engaging in this solemn repast they quaffed amber dunkel and a lighter bodied hefe weizen. The tones of the two beers contrasted each other like light and darkness, good...and evil, reflecting the inner turmoil of human nature, as well as the desire to dispel the endless thirst that drove them here. Indeed, though no doom was forthcoming and no angel of death did blow his conch horn it was yet remembered for some days afterwards as an enriching experience that the two would repeat again...and again...and again....though no one knew when...or why....

We made our annual trek for the European Wurst Tour a couple of weeks ago. As usual, food and service on the patio was spectacular. Unfortunately my favorite ladies room alien in lederhosen has been moved to the men's room. Apparently it scared a little girl so badly that she ran screaming out of the restroom. That's just comedy.

Went today to get brats and jerky. We got brats, and some breakfast sausage. Very limited selection of jerky was in the case. Only teriyaki and three varieties of hot and spicy ones. Not regular jerky ready to sell. So, we did not get any jerky. By the way, we had the brats for dinner and they were awesome in stadium rolls with grilled onions.

Mt Angel Sausage Company is a small business which grew organically, by the support of customers. That means they have a mix of seating areas for their restaurant, including the large downstairs. Sports screens. Fine staff. A-OK in-house made sausage. They gave a meat shop here too. Take their sausages home and cook them!

Not sure I will ever be in Mount Angel again but my food was yummy. But, I would be torn between eating here again or trying a new place that might be better.

This is a new place in town, I came back to visit my the abbey and found this delight. My friend and I had different items and both were delicious. I had a Ruben sandwich and it is the best I've ever had. I washed it down with a litter of IPA. What could be better? They have a good selection of beers. Looking forward to my next trip to eat here

Food was pretty good. Service was pretty bad. I don't even know who our waitress was and it didn't seem that busy. No offer to refill drinks, had to take silverware from salad bar as none was brought to our table. Pretty basic things they failed on. Mom ordered desert that never came.
